Our founder, Nimsdai Purja, had many roles at the Nimsdai Store: ground-breaking mountaineer, product designer, marketeer, brand ambassador, and visionary entrepreneur. But above all, he was the voice of the community. He was designing products built from real-world experience, defined by the elements and shaped by the needs of those pushing their limits.
Every product Nimsdai created was something he was proud to wear himself. It was a simple but powerful standard: if it wasn’t good enough for Nimsdai in the environments he knew best, it wasn’t good enough for the community.
We will mourn the loss of Nimsdai for a long time. Our hearts are broken, but we will not give up on his mission. If anything, we are more determined than ever to continue the journey he started and carry his vision forward.
When we look back to 2019, it began with something small: a limited range of tees and caps, created with one purpose; to help support Nimsdai and his once-deemed ‘impossible’ dream, Project Possible.
Fast forward to the launch of 14 Peaks on Netflix, the team began to see the true impact of that dream. People across the world got behind Nimsdai, inspired not only by what he had achieved, but by his belief that the impossible could be made possible. As the community grew, so did the demand for product, but something changed in Nimsdai too. He felt the strength of the community behind him and saw that people were looking to him for more than inspiration; they were looking for guidance on how to take on their own impossible. That made him more determined than ever to create something beyond tees and caps.
Nimsdai knew first-hand what it felt like when kit failed in the moments he needed it most, and that experience became one of his biggest driving forces. He wanted to develop technical product that he could depend on himself, and that others could trust just as much. Kit designed and tested for the realities of the world’s harshest environments, giving people the confidence to pursue their own impossible without having to question whether what they were wearing could withstand the elements.
It was no longer simply about creating product to support Nimsdai on his journey. It was about taking everything he had learned along the way and using it to create the tools that could help others begin theirs. To give people the confidence to step beyond what they thought was possible, to take on bigger challenges and to know that the kit they relied on had been created with the same determination and purpose that Nimsdai brought to everything he did.
Today, we will continue that journey.
Everything Nimsdai stood for: his courage, his determination, his belief in the impossible and, above all, his refusal to give up; this will remain at the heart of what we do. We will continue to build on the vision he started, creating product with purpose, pushing boundaries and inspiring people to discover what they are capable of.
There is still so much more of his vision to realise, and while we are heartbroken that he will not be here to see where it leads, we are more determined than ever to honour what he started.
His journey does not end here. His mission lives on through all of us who believe that the impossible is there to be challenged.
We will carry it forward.
